Alison Proudlock’s new exhibition at Thomas Tosh features both original work and limited editions prints, that take the viewer on a journey through the seasons.
An artist driven to paint, Alison captures the changing months masterfully. The lush hues of green in her spring and summer scenes, brilliant blue sky days, coastal sunsets, school holiday beach scenes, local fetes, becalmed harbours, the different tones of bluebell woods, glades of light and yellow rapeseed, and gates opening onto bright pastures.
And then there are here golden tones of autumn and the spectacle of winter, snowscapes that reflect domineering skies and bring a new vision of beauty to match Alison’s spring and summer set works.
Alison’s work covers scenes both here in Nithsdale and Dumfries and Galloway as a whole, and further North.
Born and brought up in Kirkcudbrightshire, Alison’s childhood was spent outside Shawhead where her family worked in farming. And a love of country scenery is a constant in her work. She trained at the prestigious Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art between 1967-1971, where she was tutored by Alberto Morrocco, David McClure and Jack Knox.
Alison lives in Gatelawbridge, Nithsdale, and it is this area that inspires much of the work on show.
Alison’s work is developed from a series of sketches before setting the final composition, usually composed with acrylics, oils or watercolours.
